10.10. Theater of Missing Bodies

(Location: Wind Tunnel Stage, Old Testing Grounds near JR Line)

Description:
They called it a testing tunnel, but it had chairs. Velvet-lined, thirty rows deep, pointed at a stage with no elevation. In the center of the stage: a single, unmarked mirror mounted to a spinning axis. Viewers once sat here to watch projections of themselves tested by wind, light, and rotation. Today, the mirror reflects only shadows—figures half-dissolved. Juna walks the stage and sees no reflection. Judai walks behind her and sees a blurred version of her from five minutes earlier. The mirror has lag. It replays decisions not yet made. “It’s a rehearsal room,” Juna says, “for lives we didn’t choose.” The seats fill slowly with silhouettes.

Keywords:
##mirror-stage recursion
##rehearsal for missing selves
##wind tunnel theater
##projection lag illusion
##testing ground ghosts

Very Short Story:
Juna faced the mirror and asked, “Which one of me failed the test?” The mirror spun slightly and showed her sitting in the audience, watching herself. Judai saw only fog. “You’re not in this version,” she said. “Yet.” As she turned away, her image lingered behind. It raised its hand. The theater door closed with a hiss. All across the room, the seats shimmered with transparent bodies. None turned to leave.
