Summary of Day 9 – Entering the Wind Tunnel of the Disassembled City

Day 9 marks a profound departure—not in mood, but in velocity. Judai and Juna are no longer merely observers of layered time; they become passengers within it, carried by a Shinkansen capsule that has ceased to operate on rail lines and instead floats through light-warped zones in the Takasaki region. Their journey through the “wind tunnel” is not metaphorical. It is a true parabolic capsule—a vehicle that behaves more like a lens than a train, refracting memory through motion. The journey to Takasaki is a transit into a non-calendar location: a site that emerges only once every twenty years when memory bubbles expand far enough to allow entry.

Upon arrival, the frogs greet them. They blink in harmony with the static of ancient televisions. This becomes a recurring motif throughout Day 9: the biological entwined with the broadcast. Frogs, birds, grasses, broken screens, early cathode rays—all collaged into a biological cinema of half-remembered futures. The city ahead is a disassembled one. Not a ruin, not under construction, but actively unstitching itself in careful, controlled folds.

Judai and Juna move through townships where the sound of electricity has been replaced by breathing. Construction cranes rotate with no projects. A town hall turns out to be an automated dubbing studio left from the early 1980s. The central shrine is staffed by devices that were once cameras. At one point, Judai walks across a bridge that is also an analog editing bay—tape spools embedded into the asphalt, monitoring knobs where handrails once stood. Every structure in Takasaki appears to have been converted into an archival frame, holding the material and emotional scaffolding of a country that once tried to edit itself.

They find a house labeled only “Subplot A,” inside of which are drawers of weather recordings with no dates. On a rooftop, a crow caws in the exact tones of emergency broadcasts. Juna plays back a sound file and discovers it is her own voice, reading from a manual about invisible transit corridors. No one seems surprised.

As the wind tunnel closes behind them, a map opens forward. Day 9 is a shift in scale: Tokyo was the archive; Takasaki is the signal. Everything moving forward will echo what they found here—a city tuned for premonition.
