9.20. Echo Tower of the Last Croak

(Location: Frogsignal Bluff, West of Nobeyama)

Description:
Atop Frogsignal Bluff, they found a crumbling tower shaped like an open throat. Inside, sound resonated too long—each syllable repeated seven times. “Designed for croaking,” Judai said. On the wall: seven lines of poetry, attributed to an amphibian known only as “K.” One line read: *You must forget to remember the sound.* They stood in the center and listened. A croak echoed once—then mutated. Another followed. Then silence. The echo repeated hours later, unprompted. “It’s delayed loyalty,” Juna said. “Stored until someone needs it.” As they left, the wind carried a final sound. Not croaking, not voice—something in-between.

Keywords:
##frog echo monument
##sevenfold repetition tower
##poetry by K the frog
##delayed sound loyalty
##wind-carried final tone

Very Short Story:
They camped near the bluff to hear it again. At 2:34 a.m., the echo returned, without prompt. This time, it included words—Judai’s own, spoken hours earlier, now shifted in tone and meaning. “They’re modifying us,” he said. Juna nodded. “We listen long enough, and we won’t know which version we are.” As they departed, a frog-shaped cloud hovered briefly, croaked once, and dissipated like mist.
