9.12. The Last Broadcast from Station F
(Location: Collapsed Relay Tower, Nobeyama High Plain)
Description:
The relay tower leaned like a broken limb, half its bones rusted, cables tangled with vine and web. On the outer wall, a plaque marked it simply as Station F. Beneath the ruin was a broadcast room filled with charred equipment and a bench for frogs—small indentations in the seat shaped just for them. Juna found a script in the drawer titled “Emergency Message to the Loyal.” Its last line: *Croak once for yes, twice for surrender.* Judai found a reel labeled “F—Final,” but when they played it, it showed only the static silhouette of a frog dancing against a white void. Outside, a single frog sat at attention beside the ruin. It didn’t move, even when the wind tore past.

Very Short Story:
Judai replayed the reel three times, but the silhouette never changed. Juna stepped outside to join the frog. “What’s the signal now?” she asked aloud. The frog turned to face her. In the silence that followed, she could hear the last echo of a croak from years ago—a confirmation tone. Judai noted the wind shift. A frequency blipped on the shortwave radio: *Message received, loyal.* They left the tower slowly, careful not to step in the frog’s shadow.
