10.24. The Rehearsal of the Funeral That Never Occurred
(Location: Tomb Simulation Theater, Museum’s Western Wing)
Description:
The tomb was too sacred to record. So they built a simulation. Visitors could watch the ceremonial protocols as re-enacted by actors: the frog choir, the placement of the parabolic crown, the announcement of the final radio silence. But the footage always glitched at the same moment. Just before the casket’s arrival. Juna played it frame by frame and saw why—there was never a casket. The entire ritual was designed around its absence. “This is a performance of grief,” said Judai. “But without a death.” The frog choir hummed one last note, and the feed looped. The screen reset. Visitors applauded. They didn’t know why.

Very Short Story:
Juna watched the glitch repeat twenty-seven times. Each time, the actors bowed more slowly. Judai traced the soundwave of the final hum—it resembled the waveform from the magnetic voice device. “Same tone,” he said. “Same silence, too.” The film was projected from inside a sealed chamber, with no access. “How are they looping something that never happened?” Juna asked. The answer never came. That was the point.
