12.17. The Shower Room That Cleaned Nothing
(Location: Decon Chamber Delta, Personnel Complex A)
Description:
The decontamination chamber still hissed with steam. No water flowed. The walls were etched with dozens of names—some full, some just initials—scratched deep with fingernails or styluses. Every corner of the room bore a stain: not dirt, but ritual. The idea of cleanliness. Juna stepped inside. The doors sealed. The red light blinked once, and a humming began. She felt no heat, no moisture—only a soft vibration that reminded her of a voice trying not to cry. When the cycle ended, nothing had changed. “It’s symbolic,” Judai said. “A performance of removal.” The chamber no longer decontaminated radiation. It erased guilt. Or tried to.

Very Short Story:
Juna exited without speaking. She left a faint outline on the glass, though she hadn’t touched it. Judai stepped in next. When he emerged, his shoes were slightly wet. “Impossible,” he said. “There’s no source.” Later, in her notebook, Juna found an unfamiliar name written under hers. “Takae,” it said. Neither of them remembered meeting her. But the chamber had.
