16.12. The Displacement Ramp of Kintetsu Yagi Station
Location: Platform 4½, Kintetsu Yagi Station, Kashihara
Description:
On Platform 4½ of Kintetsu Yagi Station, a narrow ramp appears only at dusk, leading downward into a corridor painted in postwar teal. It smells of camphor and old film stock. Travelers report entering to find not trains—but decisions. One room holds uniforms of railway officials with stitched-in memories. Another plays a continuous announcement: *“You are now leaving your scheduled self.”* Juna felt the floor pulse underfoot, as if rejecting her hesitation. Judai stepped further in, and the walls lit with archival images from 1947—moments of reconstruction, erased policies, provisional maps. The ramp is believed to be part of the disbanded Civic Simulation Zone. No train ever arrives, but everyone who exits has chosen a different version of themselves.
Keywords:
Kintetsu memory ramp, civic simulation tunnel, 1947 decision corridor, platform 4½, alternate identity transit
Very Short Story:
The lights flickered in rhythmic loops—first green, then purple. Judai leaned toward a window that reflected nothing. “The signage has been overwritten,” he said. Juna stepped into a room labeled “Future Surrender.” On a table, lay two tickets. One led to a city she didn’t recognize; the other, to a name she no longer used. She chose neither. Instead, she walked back up the ramp—but the station above was subtly altered. Billboards showed different actors. Her phone had no photos. She turned to Judai. “Did we just transfer to a parallel itinerary?” He answered by tearing up the map.
