Description:
Tucked beside the main library in Sapporo is an annex devoted solely to collecting misreadings of constitutional preambles. The walls are lined with framed transcriptions of reader mistakes, misprints, mistranslations, and hopeful rewordings. One reads: *We the ghosts, in order to form a more echoic union…* Another: *Justice, sometimes delayed, still narrates.* Judai lingered on a plaque labeled *Typo 71*, which omitted an entire noun, causing the sentence to loop infinitely. Juna added her own misreading: *“Secure the blessings of liberty for those we haven’t yet imagined.”* The librarian did not correct her. “The law, when misread, may be closest to poetry,” he said. They stayed until dusk, rereading errors that might still guide someone, somewhere.
