20.14. The Projectionist’s Disavowed Chamber

Past the glass-encased reel, a crawlspace leads to a hollow chamber, lined with small lenses and shutters. No single view is correct—each lens shows a different event, none confirmed. Some loop protests, others burn silently. A central plinth labeled 'OBSERVER' stands unused. Judai locates switchgear for a sequence called 'Sequence Zero'. Juna refuses to press the button. The air is dry but electric. Shadows flicker across the floor despite no light source. A manual nearby says: 'Viewer Determines Sequence Validity. Do Not Archive Without Consent.'

Very Short Story:
They see themselves in two lenses: running and still. In another, they are not present at all. Juna closes one shutter and forgets what it showed. Judai tries to document what he sees, but the page remains blank until he stops looking. Together, they exit without agreement, but remember the room identically.
