Location: Temple Trace above Urakami River
Description:
Where once rooftops traced a curve of prayer across the hillside above the Urakami River, now only the ghost line remains. The path from the museum screen reappears here as fractured clay tiles embedded in moss. Each rooftop belonged to a different district temple, linked by processions long abandoned. Judai walks the fragments, measuring distance through silence. Juna reads the wind, which shifts its tone every few meters as if echoing the absent gongs of worship. One junction bends sharply—once a bridge between temples, now a steel frame catching rain. The sound falls in rhythm. They are walking the spine of a vanished body. No shrine, no altar. Just rooftops ending in sky. Where belief once touched air, it now disperses in fractured lines.

Juna stepped over a beam that once supported a roof now forgotten. Her foot caught, and she looked up—not to the sky, but to where sky used to meet wood. Judai stood with his notebook open but wrote nothing. “There’s no temple here,” he said. “Only the absence of one.” She crouched and placed her hand on a remnant tile. It was warm. As if recently used. The wind gathered and passed like a chant unfinished. They continued along the slope, rooftops turning to dust beneath their steps. At the highest point, she saw a doorframe with no wall. “Shall we enter?” she asked. But Judai was already inside, standing where the altar used to be, waiting for the sound of an old bell.
