23.17. Juna’s Duplicate in the Train Mirror
Location: Northbound Kyushu Limited Express, Rear Cabin Mirror
Description:
In the mirrored panel of the rear cabin, Juna’s reflection begins acting out a different sequence. While she reads quietly in her seat, her mirrored self glances left, then mouths a sentence silently. Judai sees it too. He writes it down: “Don’t take the northern route.” They are going north. The mirror fogs from the inside. Juna touches the surface. Her mirrored hand lags behind. The sentence repeats in different gestures, forming a loop. Eventually, her mirrored self stops moving entirely—frozen mid-blink. She snaps a photo. Later, reviewing it, the reflection is missing entirely. The window shows only landscape.
Keywords:
mirror anomaly, silent warning, rear cabin glitch, route interdiction, visual loop
Very Short Story:
Judai leaned over. “Did you see it say something again?” Juna didn’t answer. Her eyes were fixed forward. “I think it’s not me,” she whispered, “but it knows I’m watching.” The mirror pulsed with faint humidity. They both stared until the conductor passed and broke the spell. After he left, Juna whispered, “I think it’s from the trip we didn’t take.” Judai folded the note and placed it in his coat. It glowed slightly in the dark.
