25.15. The School That Taught Forgetting
Location: Municipal Building C, Odaka Remedial Zone
Description:
Reopened in 2015 as a trauma support center, the former middle school was converted into classrooms for forgetting. Each corridor hosted a different method: art erasure, silence training, inverse geography. Juna attended one, once. The teacher never spoke. Instead, they held up images and asked the students to unrecognize them. Judai found chalkboards where memories had been diagrammed and then blacked out. “This is where they taught people to unlive what they lived,” he said. Some rooms echoed. Others refused to make sound. The bell never rang. At 3:15 each day, all doors open and close simultaneously. No one knows why. It’s not a schedule. It’s a pulse.

Very Short Story:
They stood at the entrance, where a welcome sign was whited out. Inside, the walls bore words scratched away too precisely. Juna walked into Room 4 and forgot where she’d been before. Judai touched a chair and saw himself seated there, five years ago, though he’d never visited. “They taught forgetting,” Juna whispered. “And we learned.” In the courtyard, statues were reversed: backs turned, arms folded inward. Bells rang at 3:15. The air closed behind them. They left, carrying nothing. But when Juna opened her book, one page was gone.
