26.4. The Broken Broadcast Still Being Watched
Location: Fukushō Public Safety Annex, Room 402
Description:
Room 402 has a screen. The screen is cracked, the audio corrupted. Yet chairs still face it, and each morning the lights flicker on. The broadcast plays, grainy, looped—two figures in suits reading evacuation numbers, their mouths slightly misaligned with sound. Juna notes the date on the scroll bar: one day in the future. Judai tries to adjust the dial, but the screen flickers back to the same frame. On the wall, someone has written: “We believe what repeats.” The power shouldn’t work. The feed shouldn’t exist. Outside, the antenna is broken in half. Still, the screen shows a broadcast not yet aired. No signal. No time. Just the image of a voice trying to become prophecy.
Keywords:
broken screen, future broadcast, fixed loop, belief through repetition, false evacuation
Very Short Story:
They watched. The screen glitched, but the message stayed. “Remain indoors. Expect arrival.” Juna tilted her head. “Arrival of what?” Judai wrote down the date—tomorrow. “We’re watching something no one has recorded yet,” he muttered. A man entered, sat in the last row, nodded to the screen. “Same time every day,” he said. “Same lie.” They turned to ask him more. He was gone. The door never opened.
