3.19. Annual Parade of Former Futures
Very Short Story:
They didn’t expect a parade. No one had announced it. Yet as Judai and Juna turned the corner, a brass band marched past playing a song that felt like déjà vu. Floats rolled by, each with names like *The Sovereign Sea*, *Western Tomorrow*, and *Zone 0*. Juna recognized one uniform from a childhood textbook—except that page had been blank. “Are we dreaming?” she asked. Judai shook his head. “We’re remembering forward.” A paper crown landed at her feet. She picked it up; it read *Prototype Citizen*. Children waved from a float shaped like a half-finished world. Then, without ceremony, the street emptied. No applause. Just dust and the afterglow of something that never fully was—but nearly had been.
