6.21. The Moonroom Not Meant for Observation
(Location: Selenographic Interpretation Cell, JAOC Basement Tier)
Description:
Deep within the JAOC’s basement, a locked side room opens to a chamber lit by a projected full moon that never changes phase. The walls are covered in selenographic texts—maps of the moon with altered features, as though it had been colonized and abandoned. A rotating slide viewer displays over 400 versions of the same crater with minute symbolic changes. A label on the door reads: *Interpretation Cell for Lunar Lies.* Juna walks in a circle and finds she cannot locate the door again. “The room resets with each revolution,” Judai says. He tries to trace the phases manually, but the cycle is broken. “This moon,” Juna says, “wasn’t observed. It was told what to be.”

Very Short Story:
The moonlight didn’t illuminate—it evaluated. Wherever Judai stepped, his shadow seemed to age slightly. Juna adjusted the slide viewer, each change showing a moon more narrative than real. A version bore imperial crests in the Sea of Tranquility. “They revised the moon to reflect policy,” she said. The chamber pulsed quietly with fabricated gravity. A wall inscription emerged briefly: *Observe what was never up there.* They stepped backward and found the entrance behind them again—but it led to a mirror.
