6.2. The Beginning Again
(Location: Japan Astronomical Observatory Center, Mitaka)
Description:
At the Japan Astronomical Observatory Center, night has no edge—only depth. Juna watches cosmic radiation patterns shimmer across a vast digital sky. Judai peers through an optical scope labeled *Second Origin,* as if some event beyond Big Bang awaits rediscovery. The walls hum with archived stellar data; some constellations appear to have moved out of place. A placard reads: *We Don’t Measure Light—We Measure Repetition.* Outside, the wind carries a scent of metallic static. The building itself resembles a frozen signal, domed and angled as if in mid-transmission. In one observatory tunnel, they find a telescope turned inward, into a mirrored chamber. “It’s watching its own memory,” Juna says. The stars above blink—not as light, but as ticking machines.

Very Short Story:
Judai adjusted the knobs of the inner telescope and saw himself in the lens—older, distant, writing a note he hadn’t yet conceived. Juna pressed a palm against the mirrored wall. The stars behind them dimmed as the telescope focused not on the sky, but on their silhouettes. “We are part of the record,” she said. A printout began to scroll from a nearby console: timelines, reboots, and names unassigned to any nation. A cosmic loop began to reassert itself. They left the chamber quietly, certain they’d return—though maybe next time, as different selves.
