14.10. The Dome That Translates Broadcasts Into Dreams

Location: Half-Collapsed Satellite Dish Installation, Totsukawa Region
Description:
Deep in the forest above Totsukawa, a collapsed broadcast dome still functions—in fragments. Its purpose, now half-remembered, was to reroute wartime television into private dream states. Broadcast dreams, they called them. Juna lies inside, curled beneath the arc of a shattered satellite. Images fill her sleep: courtroom trials made of water, frogs in officer uniforms, Emperor Taisho shedding his skin. Judai stands watch, adjusting dials that no longer connect to the outside world. The dome breathes, somehow—expanding and contracting with dream logic. Before dawn, Juna awakes speaking a language of antennas. “It’s how they record remorse,” she says. “In symbols only frogs understand.” The dream fades, but the dome remembers. It always remembers.

Very Short Story:
She lay still while the dome projected. No wires, no helmets—just proximity. Judai heard her murmur “war” in 16 different tongues. On his screen, static became dreams: one of a frog holding a briefcase, another of a nation built entirely from TV antennas. “Are you asleep?” he asked. “No,” she replied, eyes shut. “I’m receiving.” The air grew dense, as if tuned. “Who sent it?” he asked. “Nobody. It’s leftover.” At sunrise, the dome closed itself. And Juna forgot everything—except the antenna-shaped scar on her wrist.
