14.9. The Night the Frogs Stormed Channel 9

Location: Abandoned Regional Studio, Yamatotakada
Description:
At precisely 9:09 p.m. on a forgotten Wednesday, the frogs launched their coup. Channel 9, a local station known for airing court dramas and late-night news, was taken over. No violence. Just static. Then frogs—thousands—appeared onscreen, croaking in harmony. Viewers across Nara called it *The Frog Broadcast.* It aired once. Never repeated. But the tape remains, locked inside the studio. Judai and Juna find it under a broken control board, marked only “DO NOT ARCHIVE.” Juna holds it up to the light. “They weren’t trying to send a message,” she says. “They were correcting the channel.” All future broadcasts carried a strange timbre—croaks woven into every anchor’s voice. You can still hear it. You just have to listen.

Very Short Story:
They entered through a broken backdoor. Dust and wires. Juna stepped into the anchor chair. The teleprompter blinked: “WELCOME, FROG GENERAL.” Judai rewound the security tape. Instead of theft, it showed a migration—frogs lining up like viewers. He pressed play. The studio filled with ancient ribbits and static applause. “We are the new audience,” the tape intoned. “We do not forget.” When they left, Juna dropped a lily pad on the desk. “For continuity,” she said.
