Location: Tunnel Cut Beneath Track 2
Description:
This tunnel was carved after the war but labeled as “pre-disaster.” The walls pulse faintly with inked symbols: kanji for departure, return, erase. Within it hangs a lit board that constantly reshuffles—a schedule of departures not taken. It displays names of those who once meant to leave: children, musicians, lovers, engineers. Each name lights up briefly, then fades, replaced by the word “RECALLED.” Juna notes the interval is inconsistent. Judai finds a paper slip beneath a loose tile: a station apology, printed in invisible ink, which only her tears make legible. At the tunnel’s end, a narrow mirror reflects two silhouettes—but they are not the ones present. “This place edits time,” she says. “But only departures. Not the staying.”
Keywords:

Very Short Story:
They walked through the tunnel hand in hand, listening to the hum of missed goodbyes. The board blinked: “Engineer Nakamura — Canceled.” “That’s my mother’s maiden name,” Juna said. Judai retrieved the slip. When she cried, the words appeared: “We regret to inform you that your journey remains.” They reached the mirror, where two younger versions of themselves stood, waiting for the train. “Did we forget to leave?” Judai asked. “Or did we already return?” Behind them, the names kept cycling, faster now. The lights dimmed. The mirror fractured down the middle. And yet the two versions stayed intact, waving gently.
