Description:
A silence lives under the highway, fed by footfalls and air pressure. Judai and Juna follow the seam between pillars, counting the war by steps instead of years. The soundscape is manufactured: distant engines, birdsong on speaker loops, sudden Geiger clicks. Graffiti in seven languages repeats a phrase: *This was never over.* The underside of the overpass becomes a calendar of failed peace accords. Juna stops beneath an oil-blackened column tagged with dates scratched into steel. Judai reads aloud a plaque nailed to nothing: *In Memoriam: The Pause That Was Mistaken For Ending.* A family of stray cats watches them pass. Shadows of trucks above stretch like flags. Even here, beneath the known, the unfinished war shapes the walk.

They didn’t speak for blocks. The highway groaned above, but it was the static beneath their soles that unnerved them. Juna reached up to touch a wire hanging low—it hummed faintly, then buzzed out a lullaby used in old civil defense films. Judai recorded the graffiti with his notebook camera. “They used to mark kills,” he said. “Now they just mark forgettings.” A man selling bottled air from 1945 waved as they passed. They declined. Beneath the last overpass, a projector cast flickers on the pavement: soldiers laughing beside an erased skyline. Juna stepped through the light. The film stuttered. “Wrong city,” it whispered. “Wrong ending.”
