5.17. The Radio Station That Broadcast Regret

(Location: Frequency Tower B17, Manchurian Public Sentiment Office)

Description:
B17 still emits low-band FM waves, though the tower was officially decommissioned in 1944. Listeners report dreams of being addressed directly—apologies for crimes never explained, assurances for promises never made. Juna tunes in: a voice weeping in rhythmic patterns, modulated like music. Judai finds the logbooks, full of words like *maybe*, *almost*, *if*. Tapes in the studio are labeled *Broadcast Only During Fog*. A manual warns: *Do not interpret tone literally.* On the ceiling, a mural shows people cupping their ears, uncertain whether to smile or mourn. The room smells of rust and wet velvet. “This is where the regime tried to feel sorry,” Juna says. “Without admitting why.”

Keywords:
##emotional transmission
##apology without context
##fog-broadcast protocol
##regretful frequencies
##ambiguous confession

Very Short Story:
They sat cross-legged in the sound booth. The voice on air said, “We meant well.” Then cried softly, rhythmically. Judai flipped a switch and the volume deepened—now the voice was Juna’s, speaking in reverse. “It’s not what I said,” she protested. But Judai nodded. “It’s what was felt.” They left the tower unsure if they’d been apologized to or accused. The signal still played as they walked away.
