5.9. The Telepathic Courtroom

(Location: Mind-Recording Tribunal, Sector G8, Manchurian Legal Division)

Description:
A concrete hexagon with no windows and twenty reclining chairs—this was the experimental courtroom where witnesses’ thoughts were recorded directly and played aloud to judges. Instead of testimony, the room ran reels of neural impulses rendered as ambient audio. Judai puts on the translator headset: a scream made of bells, a confession shaped like foghorns. Juna reads a posted directive: *Evidence must be subconscious.* The trial records show no verdicts—only loops of unresolved accusations. “Everyone was guilty of the future,” one judge once said. The machinery hums faintly. A final document posted to the wall reads: *Closure was denied in favor of clarity.* The chairs are still warm.

Keywords:
##mental jurisprudence
##subconscious testimony
##future guilt
##trial without verdict
##telepathic evidence

Very Short Story:
Judai took the stand—though there was no stand. The helmet fit too tightly. Juna listened through the speaker: his memories of a café in winter, a name forgotten, a flag he never pledged. “Is this guilt?” she asked. “Or merely longing?” The judge was gone. The system played back Juna’s own thoughts in response: a hush, a pulse, a hallway without exits. They left the room unchanged. But outside, they both suddenly knew what the other had once dreamed.
