6.6. The Diagram for a Repeating War
(Location: JAOC Sub-Basement Storage Unit 92-B)
Description:
In a drawer marked “Non-Celestial Materials,” Juna uncovers a rolled vellum sheet, sealed with an obsidian pin. Unfurled, it reveals a schematic titled: *War: Model 17-A (For Recurring Theaters).* It depicts topographies, troop vectors, and civil evacuations—but the dates loop. Beside each year: the same symbol of a circular flame. Judai locates annotations in faded Manchurian script, including one that reads: *The sky will forget unless told otherwise.* A guidebook pinned beside it references *Combat Geographies of Belief.* The archivist’s log suggests this document arrived by mistake—filed under “Planetary Events.” A telescope above the desk is aimed not at the stars but at an earthbound crater. “Not observation,” says Juna. “Repetition.” The war didn’t return. It never left.

Very Short Story:
Judai ran his finger along the outer ring of the diagram. A faint static buzzed from the paper. Juna whispered the year aloud: “1942.” Then again: “1942.” It echoed back at them, from nowhere specific. The drawing adjusted slightly—one vector shifted, a line blurred. “We’re not observing history,” Judai said. “We’re part of its draft layer.” They folded the vellum carefully, but the image still hovered in the air, projected like afterburn on their retinas. Outside the sub-basement, they noticed smoke—but there was no fire. Only the scent of something once believed.
