7.14. Dragonflies Under the Dome

(Location: Botanical Atrium, JOAC Roof Hatch)

Description:
During mid-summer, a rare event occurs on the roof of the JOAC Observatory. Dozens—sometimes hundreds—of dragonflies emerge from the moss-lined joints of the dome. No source, no eggs found, no seasonal pattern. Just emergence. Scientists once hypothesized magnetized larvae or ancestral tracing. Others believed the insects arrived from an unseen rift just above the observatory’s center ring. Judai and Juna arrived just as the swarm began. The dragonflies did not disperse—they formed an orbit, a tight, silent spiral. Juna extended her hand. One landed on her book and waited. Judai knelt and sketched the flight pattern. At the spiral’s peak, the insects vanished simultaneously. No bodies, no wings left behind. Just sound: the Doppler echo of exit.

Keywords:
##insectal orbital emergence
##magnetized rift ecology
##JOAC dragonfly event
##swarm spiral disappearance
##unexplained natural aperture

Very Short Story:
They stood in the humming. Juna noted the timing—7:07 p.m. Judai whispered, “They always leave at once.” He had seen it before. Or thought he had. The book’s pages fluttered, agitated by a windless pulse. A dragonfly remained too long, its wings glowing slightly. “This one remembers,” Juna said. Then, it lifted off, trailing letters in the air—kanji from an old newsreel caption. Judai blinked. When they looked up, the dome was sealed again, its glass etched with wings.
