7.1. The Castle Arrives
(Location: JOAC Astronomical Observatory, Mitaka)
Description:
On the seventh day, the travelers reached the JOAC Observatory in Mitaka—though to Judai and Juna, it was no longer an observatory but a castle. Its stone walls had vanished, replaced by glass chambers that shimmered like planetary rings. Deep underground, beneath a courtyard of dragonflies and reflected constellations, stretched hallways of silent, ancient instruments—some still aligned to stars long extinguished. The observatory grounds were built behind the mausoleum of Emperor Taishō, and through a series of tunnels and forgotten archives, connected quietly to Hirohito’s tomb. Above ground, telescopes scanned not just the cosmos, but time. The Hiroshima Dome Boat, floating nearby, mirrored the building like a ghost vessel waiting to launch. They called it “the castle,” but it was also a story engine—ready to fold starlight into myth.

Very Short Story:
Juna pressed her palm against a cold glass wall and felt it hum. Behind her, Judai opened his notebook and recorded the angle of the sun through a missing roof tile. They wandered through the castle not as tourists but as emissaries of forgotten futures. In one room, they discovered a projection of the Sager-R black hole pulsating like a heart. Another contained a folded map labeled “Queen Betty Boop Temporal Coordinates.” They passed transparent rooms where only reflections moved, then stood at the base of the launch shaft inside the Hiroshima Dome Boat. The wind outside carried tiny dragonflies across the observatory's roof, as if ushering the castle skyward. They didn’t know if it had arrived to depart, or to keep them there forever. They did not ask.
